Lanka Grocery Insights ("we", "our", or "us") operates the Bill Eka mobile application ("App"). This Privacy Policy explains how our App collects, uses, and safeguards your information when you use our mobile application.
1. Information We Collect
Camera & Photo Access: The App requests permission to access your device camera and image library solely to allow you to scan paper supermarket receipts and shelf price tags. Captured images are uploaded to our server and sent to Google's Gemini AI API for parsing (see Section 3).
Account & Authentication Information: If you sign in with Google, we receive your basic profile information (name, email address). If you sign in with your phone number, we collect that phone number and send a one-time verification code to it via our SMS provider (Text.lk).
Receipt & Purchase Data: Parsed receipt data — store name, items, quantities, prices, categories, and totals — along with the category budgets you set. Your shopping list and app preferences stay on your device and are not sent to our servers.
Usage Logs: For each receipt or shelf-tag scan we record when it happened, whether it succeeded, how long it took, and how much AI processing it used. These logs do not contain the contents of your receipts. We use them to keep the service reliable and to plan and price it fairly.
2. How We Use Your Information
To process supermarket receipt and shelf-tag images and parse expense data (item names, quantities, and totals).
To generate smart shopping auto-fill suggestions based on your historical purchase frequency.
To compare supermarket prices (Keells, Cargills, Arpico, Spar, Glomark) and calculate cost projections.
To enforce user-defined budget alerts and spending breakdown analytics.
To authenticate you and keep your account secure (Google sign-in or phone number + one-time code).
3. Data Security & Storage
Your account and receipt data are stored on our servers in a secured database and transmitted between the App and our servers over encrypted HTTPS connections. We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information or receipt data to any third-party advertisers.
To parse receipt and shelf-tag photos, we send the image to Google's Gemini API for AI-based text extraction; to deliver phone sign-in codes, we send your phone number to our SMS provider, Text.lk. These providers process this data on our behalf and do not use it for their own advertising purposes.
4. Permissions Requested
CAMERA: Required for capturing receipt and price tag photos in real-time.
READ_EXTERNAL_STORAGE / READ_MEDIA_IMAGES: Required for picking receipt images from your photo gallery.
INTERNET: Required for authenticating users and querying AI receipt layout parsing services.
5. Data Deletion & User Control
You can clear locally cached scans and receipt data at any time via Profile > Data & Storage > Clear All Cached Data. To permanently delete your account and every receipt and budget stored on our servers (and clear the data saved on your device), use Profile > Data & Storage > Delete My Account in the App — this takes effect immediately and cannot be undone.
